Everything You Need to Know
Before Your Journey to z-aesthetic
We have compiled the questions our international patients ask most often. Browse by topic to find answers about treatments, travel logistics, costs, and what to expect during your stay in Germany.
Dental Implants
With good oral hygiene and regular professional cleaning, implants can last a lifetime. The ceramic crown may need replacement after 15–20+ years, depending on wear. We design every restoration for long-term durability.
Implant placement is performed under local anaesthesia and is generally not painful during the procedure. Post-operative discomfort is typically mild and manageable with standard analgesics. Sedation or general anaesthesia is available if you prefer.
Yes. Many of our implant patients travel from abroad. For straightforward single implants, treatment can often be split across two visits. All-on-4 cases may require a minimum of two stays of several days each. We provide detailed scheduling guidance after your clinical assessment.
This depends on implant position and diameter. Our 3D planning software determines suitability precisely — in many cases where other clinics advise bone grafting, guided placement techniques allow us to proceed without additional procedures. A final answer always requires your CT scan.
All-on-4 Implants
Teeth Whitening
Transient sensitivity during and for 24–48 hours after treatment is common and usually resolves spontaneously. We apply a remineralisation gel post-treatment and can prescribe a desensitising toothpaste. Persistent sensitivity is rare and should be discussed with your dentist.
Results vary depending on dietary habits (coffee, tea, red wine, tobacco) and individual enamel characteristics. Most patients retain a noticeably lighter shade for 12–36 months. Periodic top-up treatments with a take-home kit can extend longevity.
Peroxide bleaching only acts on natural tooth enamel. Existing ceramic or composite restorations will not change colour. If restorations are in aesthetically prominent positions, we will discuss whether replacement after whitening makes sense for your situation.
We recommend waiting at least two weeks after bleaching before placing new composite fillings or ceramic restorations. This allows the shade to stabilise and ensures accurate colour matching for any subsequent work.
Prophylaxis & Hygiene
The standard recommendation for low-risk patients is once or twice per year. Patients with active or treated periodontitis, high caries risk, or fixed orthodontic appliances may benefit from three- or four-monthly recall appointments. We determine the right interval for you during your first visit.
German statutory health insurance (GKV) covers one basic professional cleaning per year (IP4/IP5 for adults, IP1–IP3 for children). Comprehensive PZR including Airflow, intensive scaling, and fluoride application is typically not fully covered and is billed on a self-pay basis.
When performed with modern instrumentation—particularly Airflow with Plus powder and calibrated piezo scalers—professional cleaning has a negligible effect on enamel. Aggressive or overly frequent scaling with outdated equipment can cause surface loss; our protocol is specifically designed to prevent this.
Bleeding during or shortly after scaling is usually a sign of existing gingival inflammation rather than an injury caused by the treatment. As biofilm and calculus are removed and your home-care improves, bleeding on probing typically resolves within two to four weeks.
Zirconia Crowns
Clinical studies report survival rates above 95% at 10 years for monolithic zirconia crowns in posterior positions. Longevity depends on oral hygiene, bruxism management, and the quality of the underlying tooth structure. Layered restorations carry a slightly higher risk of porcelain chipping; our ceramist selects the most appropriate design for your clinical situation.
Modern multilayer translucent zirconia closely replicates the optical behaviour of natural enamel. Our in-house ceramist applies individual surface characterisation and uses polarised-light shade matching. The result is indistinguishable from a natural tooth in the vast majority of cases.
Zirconia is the preferred material for posterior load-bearing crowns and for patients with parafunctional habits. For high-aesthetic anterior cases, IPS e.max or layered zirconia may offer superior optical properties. We present all relevant options and their trade-offs during consultation.
Monolithic zirconia requires no dietary restrictions once fully cemented. With layered restorations, very hard foods (ice cubes, nutshells) carry a small risk of veneer chipping. Your treating clinician will discuss appropriate precautions based on your specific restoration.
Complete Rehabilitation
Duration varies widely depending on whether implants, bone grafting, or periodontal surgery are required. A straightforward restorative-only rehabilitation may be completed in 3–5 months; cases involving implant osseointegration and grafting typically require 12–18 months from first appointment to final placement.
No. We plan the treatment sequence specifically to ensure you have functional and aesthetically acceptable provisional restorations throughout every phase. You will not experience any period without coverage.
Yes. The Digital Smile Design process and a physical mock-up applied directly to your teeth allow you to evaluate your new smile in your own mouth before any preparation is carried out. The provisional phase provides a further extended evaluation period under real functional conditions.
With appropriate maintenance—twice-yearly professional prophylaxis, nightly splint use if bruxism is present, and avoidance of extreme occlusal loads—comprehensive ceramic rehabilitations routinely function well for 15–25 years. Individual longevity depends on oral hygiene, systemic health, and occlusal habits.
Costs & Financing
German statutory health insurance (GKV) covers basic tooth replacement (Festzuschuss) but does not cover aesthetic enhancements such as veneers, whitening, or premium ceramic materials beyond the basic benefit. Private insurance (PKV) coverage varies by tariff. We are happy to provide documentation to support your reimbursement claim.
We can provide a preliminary cost orientation based on photographs, X-rays, and a video consultation. A binding treatment plan and exact cost estimate can only be issued after a clinical examination with our own diagnostics. This protects you from inaccurate commitments made without full information.
Our fee schedule is consistent. International patients pay the same fees as local patients for the same treatments. There are no surcharges for international coordination — however, translation services and extended consultation time are provided at no additional cost.
Travel & Logistics
Düsseldorf International (DUS) is the most convenient — 20 minutes by taxi and with the widest range of international connections. Cologne/Bonn (CGN) and Frankfurt (FRA, approx. 2h by train) are alternatives if DUS has no direct route from your location.
For a consultation and diagnostic appointment, one day is typically sufficient. For an All-on-4 procedure, we generally plan for a stay of 3–5 days for the surgical appointment, plus a return visit 3–6 months later. We provide a personalised visit schedule after your initial assessment.
Before Your Visit
Yes. Our preliminary online consultation is offered without charge and without obligation. If you then decide to visit the clinic, the cost of the in-person consultation will be deducted from your treatment fees.
We use standard video calls (Google Meet, Zoom, or WhatsApp Video — your preference). The consultation typically lasts 20–30 minutes. An English-speaking team member leads the call; other languages available on request.
Photographs allow us to discuss aesthetic options and give you an initial orientation. They are not sufficient for implant planning, bone assessment, or any structural treatment — these require clinical diagnostics. We will always be clear about what is and is not assessable remotely.
Aftercare
First, keep the restoration — do not discard it. Contact us immediately. In most cases, re-bonding or recementation is a straightforward procedure that your local dentist can perform using the specifications we provide. We will guide you through the process and coordinate with your local dentist if needed.
We provide a complete clinical handover document including X-rays, treatment report, material specifications, and implant data sheet (for implant patients). With your consent, we send this directly to your home dentist. Most dentists find this documentation complete and sufficient to continue your care.
We stand behind our work. Restorations that fail due to a technical defect within a reasonable period are addressed at no additional cost. Wear and damage from external causes (trauma, grinding without protection, neglect of hygiene) are not covered. We are transparent about what is and is not within our responsibility.
